I had the pleasure of visiting The Old Stables – Allerton Manor Golf Club last week to try their menu! I wasn’t sure what to expect being honest, but I was delighted and left very satisfied.
Smoked haddock & dill fishcake / 7.50
The fishcake was cooked beautifully, soft and fluffy centre coated in crisp breadcrumbs. The textures worked, and the warm tartare & pickled radish accompanied the dish perfectly. Definitely worth trying and for the price you can’t complain.
Parma ham & asparagus spears (GF) / 7.50
This dish was so light and delicious. I think this is my all time favourite way to eat asparagus. The poached egg was beautiful with a perfectly golden, oozy yolk which went well with the salty, meaty taste of the Parma ham.

Confit duck leg (GF*) / 14.50
This confit duck leg was the perfect example of fall-off-the-bone meat; it was meltingly tender with a mellow flavour complimented by the subtle sweetness of the blueberry glaze.
I especially enjoyed the duck bonbon. I didn’t read the menu properly when I ordered the duck and didn’t realise it came with the bonbon. I thought it was stuffing when I saw it on the plate! This was such a pleasant surprise as it added a further element to the dish.
However, special mention must go out to (arguably) the best dauphinoise potatoes I have tasted. They melted in your mouth creamy deliciousness!! I will quite happily go here and just eat a big bowl of these!
Slow Braised Pork Belly (GF) / £14.50
Now for the star of the show! The slow braised pork belly. Crispy cracking, tender meat and creamy mashed potatoes, this dish really did have it all.
The pork belly was delightfully tasty with a rich, not too fatty, smoky flavour and a light sweetness. This accompanied by the spring greens and caramelised apple puree made for the perfect flavour combination.
The only thing I would change on this dish is to swap the mashed potatoes for the dauphinoise from the confit duck leg.
Recommendation
I was a bit apprehensive going to a golf club for dinner; however, I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was and for the price you can’t go wrong. I definitely recommend visiting The Old Stables at the Allerton Manor Golf Club.
